Kiala is Europe's leading service provider of delivery points networks. Such networks enable consumers to avoid the inconvenience from missed home parcel deliveries. Kiala allows consumers buying from a distance through catalogues, the Internet or teleshopping, as well as mobile professionals (sales representatives, technicians, promotion officers, self-employed, etc.) to COLLECT, PAY FOR and RETURN their parcels quickly, where and when it suits them best. The network of Kiala Points consists of local shops (grocery stores, dry cleaners', newsagents, petrol stations, florists, etc.) offering easy access, extensive opening hours even at weekends, a quality service, no queuing and a sufficiently large and secure storage area. As a result, the customer enjoys a quick delivery, within a guaranteed timeframe, and optimizes his/her time by collecting his/her parcels from the location of his/her choice.

Auster Solutions do Brasil (www.auster.com.br) is a product development company in Brazil with experience in the Information Technology market, specially in the Telecom Market. Our line of product focus on solutions and value added services for the billing chain.
We develop a specialist system that allows the Telecom Service Providers to declarativelly define business rules that must be checked on their billing data, highlightning problems found. This is actually the automation of the manual, recurring work that usually takes time from tens of analysts, allowing them (the analysts) to focus on the analysis job instead of the manual, recurring and error prone tasks. Drools is used as the core rules engine for this specialist system and is performing wonderfully. Drools addresses our two main concerns:
1. Allows a rule to be configured declarativelly instead of programatically: this makes easy for the service providers to define their own rules without having to compile a plugin or something to the system. The default semantic modules in Drools already do this, and the SMF also allows us to define a high level grammar for use in specific cases simplifying even more the development of rules.
2. Performance: each time the system runs, it needs to process hundreds of thousands of records and the Rete algorithm implemented by Drools is performing wonderfully. Nowadays, we are capable of processing almost 4 million records per hour in dual processed Xeon machines and this number raises up to the order of 10 million records per hour in multiprocessed RISC platforms.
We would like to thanks all the Drools developers for developing such a good quality product.
