Fabric3 is a project implementing a federated service network based on the Service Component Architecture specification (http://www.osoa.org).

Are you curious about Fabric3? Check out the ServerSide demonstration and the Vision Statement. To get started developing with Fabric3, see the Tutorials. The Fabric3 0.5 Release is currently in process. A brief list of features can be found here.

Overview

The goal of Fabric3 is to provide Apache-licensed infrastructure for assembling and provisioning networks of services built using diverse technologies. As applications evolve from single-stack, non-integrated architectures to sets of loosely-coupled services, there is a need for a new generation of middleware aimed at managing these environments.

Based on the Service Component Architecture Specifications (SCA), Fabric3 enables developers to create and access services written using a variety of programming technologies (e.g. Java, Spring, Groovy, Ruby, BPEL, EJB). It enables administrators to provision those services to multiple platforms (e.g. Servlet containers, J2EE application servers, lightweight "edge" servers) and manage them over time.

A key design principle of Fabric3 is simplicity without sacrificing capability or flexibility. Fabric3 aims to be a complete solution to the challenges associated with assembling and managing large-scale service networks, packaged in user-friendly distributions that can be easily customized to meet individual needs.
