jmacgill hi all
jgarnett Hi James
jgarnett did you get my actuall build problem?
jgarnett (and thanks for looking at it BTW)
jmacgill yes, not tried it yet. But it looks like the junit.fork property is not being set to true
dblasby Marcrisney - sorry I was doing something else. Whats your email address and I'll send you my TIGER road data .sld...
jgarnett I also found that it was running all the tests twice ...
jgarnett the maven.xml file I sent "fixed" this.
jmacgill ok, I can imagine where that came from. I'm a little perplexed as to how the juni fork property got unset
jgarnett not sure - justin did a great fix though.
jgarnett He made an eclipseAll target - so I can kill the gt2Eclipse script
jmacgill yey
jgarnett jmacgill - I may repurpose you address lookup fragment as part of http://katrina.telascience.org/
jgarnett I will also be 1/2 hr late to the IRC meeting - I will leave a log open though.
CIA-10 jgarnett 2.1.x * r15743 geotools/module/main/: ignore bin directory.
jgarnett Revesing FT model, QName is so much better then GenericName.
MarcRisney thanks dblaspy my email marc dot risney - at - gmail dot com
MarcRisney Jody I get an error when trying to build crs.WKT parsing error not found
dblasby MarcRisney - sent.
dblasby I've added a few more options to labeling. You can read about them in the geoserver-devel list.
dblasby We're making a release next week, and our documentation is all being redone (hopefully done by the end of the month)
jmacgill ping
jmacgill humm network troubles today
jmacgill wonder if they are mine or everyones
Polio hello all
MatthiasB Hi.
jgarnett Hi - be with you guys shortly.
jmacgill Hi, is it just me or do people keep loosing their concections
MarcRisney me too
jmacgill (it can be hard to tell in IRC if you are dropping out or if everyone else is)
MatthiasB Me not.
MatthiasB (But after near-hard disc failures I had to set up my system on a new HD and it is nice to see IRC works again for me.
jmacgill
jmacgill Sounds like Jody will be available soon, I think it best to wait for him
jgarnett I am here
dblasby hi everyone
jgarnett just doing a bit of other volunteer stuff on my lunch break.
dblasby geoserver meetings in victoria (bc,canada) all this week and next if anyone is interested...
jmacgill jody, based on that link you gave earlier, I have a kml (google earth) link up for the wms
jgarnett lol - jesse and I would like to attend one.
jgarnett nice let the irc channel know - seascallop.
dblasby why would they want to know about seascallops?
jgarnett We are going to try and pull a udig + that data + your address lookup together to help out.
Polio I wouldn't mind attending for a bit ... can you forward me some details pls
dblasby Justin's going to talk tomorrow about the eclipse plugin "core" and frameworks if you're interested.
Polio (I can let a couple of the other guys here know too)_
jgarnett no idea - although I think the seascallops got a bit more territory latly - perhaps that is it.
jgarnett Any idea where you guys will be dblasby?
dblasby we're going to pretty much talk about everything geoserver & the enterpise edition over the next while.
jgarnett Not sure I can volunteer office space this time
jgarnett I can prep a presentation on geotools RnD and what is where when.
dblasby we'll be making a release, talking about the plugin stuff, geo wiki stuff, etc...
dblasby excellent, jody, we'll pencil you in.
jgarnett good stuff
Polio hey, is chris in toen too?
Polio *town
dblasby I hope to make little wiki pages up – the geoserver documentation is going to be pretty good soon. We're re-doing it all (well, re-organizing and adding/editing it)
dblasby no - he's still in Zambia.
Polio right, I knew that too
dblasby but he's here in spitit
dblasby spirit
Polio If you want to go for lunch one day, let us know
dblasby anyways - just an fyi. I'll post to the list about when/where/what.
dblasby will do
dblasby topics/
dblasby ?
MarcRisney TextSymbolizer example ?
jgarnett Hey Polio I had to hack at a WFSDataStore subclass - to freak out less for GML3 content. I can send you a patch, but it probably will not matter until there is a GML3 parser.
jgarnett (that was quick thinking MarcRisney )
jgarnett 1. FM update (short - I promiss)
dblasby MarcRisney – I sent you 2 examples in email. I'll add a jira task for a wiki page.
CIA-10 mleslie 1.0.x * r15744 udig/community/mleslie/ (71 files in 27 dirs): Moved the browser plugin into the community repository, and added telascience specific extension plugin.
jgarnett 0. TextSymbolizer examples ... done now?
Polio jgarnett, sure ... we can start a thread off line
MatthiasB Topic: 3D rendering discussion, if you are a bit prepared...?
jgarnett np. And no hurry, did not want to bug you when deadlines were around - may not get useful chat until mid of next month.
jmacgill 3D would be good a good topic, yes. I have read your RnD page
jgarnett 3. Maven createRelease & 2.1.1
CIA-10 jeichar 1.0.x * r15745 udig/plugins/ (9 files in 7 dirs): fixed findService method
jmacgill 4. Renderer interface (replace / rename)
jgarnett Okay since it is 1/2 hr in - lets start!
jgarnett 0. TextSymbolizers
prizzi Hi all, I'm Paolo Rizzi. I should've been here last week, maybe... I saw in the log you talked about me...
dblasby hi paolo
jgarnett Would you like an agenda item prizzi?
jgarnett And welcome?
dblasby 5. (geoserver) TransactionResponse refactoring and new render with WCS
jgarnett We are just about to go through a weekly IRC meeting, we can stay and talk shop after. Or if you have a subject we can place it on the agenda.
prizzi ...well I don't know... the right agenda for me was the last week... I see you already have many topics for today
jgarnett dblasby - Fair enough .... you may want a breakout IRC meeting on geoserver (depends how fast this meeting goes?)
dblasby I'll start when this one ends
jgarnett MarcRisney - you have the first agenda item - does the TextSymbolizer example you have work out for you?
dblasby I added a jira task to add dox
prizzi ...sorry, I'm a little slow typing... dave, we can talk about 5. as the last topic, ok???
jgarnett Perhaps markhamc is no longer paying attention.
jgarnett 0. FM - updated with respect to Polio's comments.
jgarnett I will commit this afternoon.
CIA-10 mleslie 1.0.x * r15746 udig/community/mleslie/net.refractions.udig.ui.browser/ (32 files in 13 dirs):
jgarnett I am worried that the actual needs of fixing things will be lost in discussion on GeoAPI etc ...
dblasby Another FYI – gvSIG has put out 0.4. ITs pretty good. Renderes as fast as esri arc view. Chris and jody (and a bit me) have been trying to get them to move towards using/integrating with geotools.
dblasby (gvSIG is very much like udig)
markhamc i'm here, jgarnett
CIA-10 mleslie 1.0.x * r15747 udig/community/mleslie/net.refractions.udig.ui.browser/src/net/refractions/udig/ui/browser/ui/ (5 files):
jgarnett We got udig down to 2 seconds, arcview at 1.5 - we started at 14.
jgarnett Jesse needs Geometry interfaces (or something) to bring the generic geotools renderers in line performance wise.
jgarnett but lets move on ...
jgarnett any questions (or interest) in FM - please contact me via email.
jgarnett 2. ThreeDee
jgarnett MattiasB you have the floor
MatthiasB Well, people were discussing Geometry interfaces and implementations lately...
MatthiasB ... while I dug through LiteRenderer.
MatthiasB So, I took both together and had the idea (not very new admittedly) to jave 3D rendering.
MatthiasB There has been some talk about this already, but I could not see any specific results or docs in the RnD section.
jmacgill I should mention at this point that there are two different things to consider when talking about 3D
MatthiasB So I created one with mine ideas about this:
MatthiasB http://geotools.codehaus.org/3D+Geometry+and+Rendering+ideas
jmacgill you mentioned wirlwind - this is a 3D renderering, but the data is no more three dimensional than what we render now
MatthiasB Then take Google Earth or Grass GIS. I mean "real" 3D as well.
MatthiasB Anyway. I simply wanted to know what your opinion is, for the general idea and maybe specific 3D geometry APIs.
dblasby you should look at the GML3/GeoAPI stuff.
dblasby GML2 and JTS are all pretty much 2d libraries.
dblasby 3d gets very difficult to do correctly.
MatthiasB Why?#
jgarnett Related Idea: I am going to "backaway" from JTS vs GeoAPI for the FM. So we can treat the two problems separate.
jgarnett MatthiasB 3D is hard.
jgarnett Right now the relate methods
dblasby for example, image a peice of paper represented by 4 points at the corners. Now, lift one of the corners up off the table. Whats the shape of the paper now?
jgarnett aka PointSet math have lots of exception cases, when you toss in a third dimension the number of exceptional cases more then tripples.
jgarnett JTS has taken years to do, and only does 2D.
MatthiasB Answer: Define it as two triangles and you don*t have the problem.
jgarnett We can make the data structure - but I am not sure how much you can expect us to work with it.
jgarnett That is not solids.
MatthiasB Well, that's why I wanted to know, for example, if there is anythig out of the box. Obviously not.
jgarnett Difference between 3D graphics and 3D topology.
jmacgill 3d topology is very very complex
jmacgill but as a short term goal I would like to se a 3d renderer of our exisint 2d data
jmacgill (if you can call lat lon 2d... (wibble))
MatthiasB To make one thing clear. I did not say I will create a 3D topology API within one week.
jgarnett I know
dblasby I'd like to see some network and winged-edge stuff in Geotools (and representable in GML), but i think thats a pretty long-term thing...
MarcRisney if you need an oracle topology dataset for experimentaion I ghave one set up on 209.190.29.2 user/pwd mvdemo/mvdemo
MatthiasB All I wanted to point to is, that 3D rendering should be taken into account when decisions about geometry are done in the future.
jgarnett I really want to track what the next round of SFSQL is doing ... I know it is different then GML3 even though they are trying for the same spec.
jgarnett Two bad they have not published anything, and the spec is ISO and not available to us mere hackers.
jgarnett MattiasB - I think no matter what happens we can do 3D with it.
jgarnett You can do 3D right now with JTS geoms if you use the CRS information.
jgarnett The common approach is to draw into a texture buffer and drop the buffer on a sphere.
MatthiasB You can do 2.5D new, correct? (I.e. elevation models.)
jgarnett Yes.
MatthiasB Yes, that's a start.
MatthiasB I've finished with that topic. If there are more comments, maybe add them to the wiki page...
jgarnett cool what is next?
jgarnett 3. Maven createRelease & 2.1.1
jgarnett James did you get my email with the actual error log?
jgarnett dblasby - this release is what should be used for geoserver release?
jmacgill yes, and I'm trying to work out how that can be hapening as junit fork apears to be set correctly
jgarnett I have one outstanding oracle improvement to make - but everything is basically good to go.
dblasby we'll see when we do the actual release.
jmacgill have you done a full build using the src release?
jgarnett I also was scared at the lack of feathers.
dblasby I think there will be some streamingrenderer changes between now and then.
jgarnett no - this was just trying to kick out something for geoserver review.
jgarnett I have not uploaded it to SF or anything.
jmacgill i.e. createRelease -> src-archive -> build
jmacgill ok
jgarnett I would rather renderer changes (non bug fixes) be done on trunk?
jgarnett why API changes? Just to prevent confusion?
jgarnett I suppose that is the next meeting topic.
jgarnett One last build thing
jgarnett jdeolive made "maven eclipseAll" as a target.
jgarnett It replaces the Gt2Eclipse script - for those that care.
jgarnett dblasby any idea as to when the geoserver release is going out?
dblasby next week.
dblasby I would rather renderer changes (non bug fixes) be done on trunk?
dblasby whenever I see comments like this you realize that I just put the work off until nov or so?
jgarnett cool - so the timing on this sanity check is good.
jgarnett That is about all - I hope your oracle users manage to use those jars okay - things are doing fine on the udig side of things.
dblasby same thing with the date/time stuff - someone asked me to do it on trunk, so its put off until we move to trunk (ie. after the FM stuff)
jmacgill dave and I have been in communication to keep tunk and 2.1 work in synch
jgarnett okay - I have to take my oracle fixes over to trunk - but I wrote down the -r numbers.
jgarnett 4. Renderer interface (replace / rename)
jgarnett (here is that next agenda item ... over to you dave)
MarcRisney Jody, when I try to do a build I get a failed dependicy requirement for a shapefile-jar (for the oracle plugin)
jgarnett on 2.1.x ?
MarcRisney yes
MarcRisney D:\projects\geotools2.1x\plugin\oraclespatial>maven java:compile
MarcRisney Attempting to download main-2.1.1.jar.
MarcRisney WARNING: Failed to download main-2.1.1.jar.
MarcRisney Attempting to download shapefile-2.1.1.jar.
MarcRisney WARNING: Failed to download shapefile-2.1.1.jar.
jgarnett I have not seen that - please send me the ... oh too late.
MarcRisney The build cannot continue because of the following unsatisfied dependencies:
MarcRisney main-2.1.1.jar
MarcRisney shapefile-2.1.1.jar
MarcRisney Total time: 15 seconds
MarcRisney Finished at: Mon Sep 19 13:10:13 PDT 2005
jmacgill this means that main and shapefile have not been built (they are local and not a download)
jmacgill when maven fails to find them localy it tries to get a download as a fall back, fails, and gives the criptic 'faild to download' message
jmacgill try running jar:install in both main and shapefile first
jgarnett (no I don't know why shapefile would be needed)
dblasby (as for this topic, see the mail list. Matthias made some recommendations and submitted a fix to one some of the classes. One of them was also what James mentioned – moving the interface to the renderer package.)
jmacgill me neither (it should probably be removed from teh project.xml file for oracle to see what happens)
jgarnett james your topic is up: 4. Renderer interface (replace / rename)
jgarnett (I will try that change to project.xml)
dblasby (as for this topic, see the mail list. Matthias made some recommendations and submitted a fix to one some of the classes. One of them was also what James mentioned – moving the interface to the renderer package.)
jmacgill ok, the issue here is being nice to uses, mainainin backwards compatability and reducing confusion
jmacgill not all three are possible at once (I fear)
jmacgill Dave, what do things look like right now on 2.1.x ?
dblasby all the StreamingREnderer stuff is new
dblasby The only thing depending on it is the geoserver on my machine.
dblasby I havent committed it yet – waiting for the stuff to settle down.
dblasby once it does, we can just copy it over to trunk (if it isnt already there).
dblasby And then migrate udig over to it.
dblasby (should only be a few lines difference)
dblasby jessie said he was going to refactor the test cases to point at streamingrenderer instead of lite
jmacgill Can we think of a name for the interface taht does not add to the general confusion?
dblasby GTRenderer?
jmacgill oh, I like that...
MatthiasB GTRenderer. Why not.
jmacgill then we can deprecate the old interface... yep, much better
dblasby okay – thats an easy change. I can fix up matthias comments and put it in 2.1.x and trunk.
dblasby Should we give matthias commit access so he can make changes to the renderer/renderer utility?
MatthiasB No.
jgarnett Oh - I remembered something for MatthiasB.
jgarnett Justin backported the udig catalog - but has not commited it yet. He was experimenting with retroweaver vs geoapi style ant tasks.
jgarnett Hopefully that will be useful?
jmacgill jgarnett - http://docs.codehaus.org/download/attachments/27614/katrina.kmz
MatthiasB kmz?
jgarnett um what is kmz?
jmacgill sorry, ment that as a msg... its a ziped kml file for Google Earth (shows Katrina WMS data on it)
MatthiasB Where is this backported Catalog API right now?
MatthiasB Are all people gone to play Google Earth?
jgarnett I see the directory .. but justin is not here at the meeting.
jgarnett And it does not look like he commited.
jgarnett dlasby - do you know how to reach him?
dblasby he's not online right now
jgarnett I will send him an email for you Matthias.
MatthiasB OK.
jgarnett (I just did not want you to backport IResolve when he had just finished it)
jgarnett Does anyone have any more geotools topics? Or should we make way for the geoserer meeting
