1. IP check
2. In with Maven 2, out with Maven 1
3. Code Formatting
4. 2.2.x going stable
<jdeolive> jody set up an initial agenda but couldnt' make it
<jdeolive> 1) IP Check
<jdeolive> 2) Maven 2, Killing Maven 1
<jdeolive> 3) Code Formatting
<jdeolive> 4) 2.2.x going stable
<jdeolive> anyone have anything else?
<jdeolive> we can wait a few minutes for stagglers
<chorner> looks good
<iant_> hi
<jdeolive> hi iant_
<iant_> Phew I thought I was on my own again
<jdeolive> shall we start
<jdeolive> 1) IP Check
<iant_> OK
<jdeolive> i dont know much about this, but i think for the moment it is somewhat at rest, noone has been bugging us yet
<iant_> I had a question - what happens when I worte code while employed somewhere I don't work any more?
<jdeolive> good question
<jdeolive> doesn't the PMC have copyright on all code no matter who actually wrote it and what company contributed?
<jdeolive> although i am not sure
<jdeolive> cholmes can probably answer this for us
<iant_> The university of Leeds sort of knew that JAmes and I were placing stuff as opensource
<jdeolive> hmm, this is a good question
<jdeolive> probably a good one for the list as i am sure many people who arent here will want to comment
<jdeolive> iant_, can you bring up in email?
<iant_> yeah
<cholmes> Yeah, go ahead and reply on the list, I can point the lawyer guy at it.
<jdeolive> cool, anyone else have anything on this?
<iant_> I'm pretty sure we're ok but you never know
<jdeolive> ok, well lets move on then
<jdeolive> 2) Maven 2, killing maven 1
<jdeolive> I chatted with martin and jody today about maven 2 vs maven 1
<iant_> I thought there were bugs in maven 2?
<jdeolive> apparently most of them have been worked out
<jdeolive> the only remaining issue for the maven 2 build is shapefile failing some tesgts
<jdeolive> Jesse_Eichar77
<jdeolive> i think jesse posted email about this
<Jesse_Eichar77> sorry didn't hear it get started
<jdeolive> shapefile, failing tests?
<Jesse_Eichar77> does it only fail with maven 2?
<jdeolive> sounds like you are workin on it
<jdeolive> yes, becaue
<Jesse_Eichar77> Because it builds on all machines here.
<jdeolive> maven 1 forks junit tests, ie each test gets its own jvm
<Jesse_Eichar77> ok that would explain it. I need to set up a maven 2 environment then.
<jdeolive> this is not the case with the maven 2 build
<Jesse_Eichar77> Is that a requirement for 2.2.x?
<jdeolive> why, i am not exactly sure that martin set it yp like that
<jdeolive> does anyone else know
<jdeolive> well apparently teh maven 1 build doens't do javadocs, which is a blocker for the release
<Jesse_Eichar77> oh I see.
<jdeolive> i am the maintianer of hte maven 1 build but am swamped right now so cant look into it
<jdeolive> so i think for the moment the shapefile tests are disabled
<Jesse_Eichar77> Yeah I'm going to work on shapefile this afternoon.
<jdeolive> cool, that would be great
<jdeolive> so jody has proposed killing the maven 1 build and just using maven 2
<Jesse_Eichar77> sigh.
<jdeolive> i think this is probably something that module maintainers can vote on
<jdeolive> martin and jody are both +1
<iant_> and I just paid $20 for the maven book!
<iant_> so I'm 0
<jdeolive> ha, uh oh
<jdeolive> i am kind of on the fence, but i am going to to +1
<jdeolive> maven 2 has some nice things that i like
<jdeolive> and there has been a lot of action around it latley
<Jesse_Eichar77> I don't know enough at the moment. I haven't wanted to take the time to get maven 2 to go but I suppose I'll have to do it.
<jdeolive> tons of bug fixes and new releases
<jdeolive> maven 1.0.x is pretty much dead
<jdeolive> sounds like jesse is 0
<Jesse_Eichar77> for now
<Jesse_Eichar77> probably +1 when I get it running
<Jesse_Eichar77>
<jdeolive> haha, one of those guys huh
<jdeolive> just kidding
<jdeolive> that sounds good to me, i think its getting pretty close to time to switch over, i was planning on trying to use the maven 2 build myself so i can take some of the pain for us
<jdeolive> so anything else on this ?
<Jesse_Eichar77> I'm good. I'll send emails out indicating my progress.
<jdeolive> cool
<jdeolive> 3) Code Formatting
<jdeolive> this issue has been beat to death i think
<jdeolive> i think we just need to vote on a way to do it
<Jesse_Eichar77> Lets email out a vote.
<jdeolive> ok, sounds good
<chorner> what are the options? auto-format on commit, and manual-format with jalopy?
<jdeolive> good question, we could set up the maven build to format with jalopy so ever build your code gets formated
<jdeolive> but would slow the build down quite a bit
<jdeolive> i thikn for now its just manual jalopy befor ecommit
<chorner> "mvn format" would be nice
<jdeolive> yeah, i am sure something like that could be set up for sure
<chorner> alright, to e-mail then...
<jdeolive> so lets do the formal email vote
<jdeolive> 4) 2.2.x going stable
<jdeolive> anyone have any comments, is there a timeline for udig to jump on?
<jdeolive> or is it already one, i dont even know
<Jesse_Eichar77> We're on 2.2.x now
<jdeolive> coolo
<iant_> GeoVista Studio is ready to switch as soon as a repository exists
<jdeolive> jody said he did some fixing of FeatureType.create, so that you can actually create a feature with non-deperecated api
<jdeolive> i think the 2.2.x jars are on the refractions rack mount, no?
<Jesse_Eichar77> umm. No official release yet..
<jdeolive> i know i uploaded some for geoserver 1.4.x
<jdeolive>
<iant_> We're happy to test a Release Candidate
<jdeolive> so i think that actually going stable relies on the maven 2 build being worked out
<Jesse_Eichar77> I think you're right.
<jdeolive> which i think jus tmeans that the developers (minus martin) actually start using it
<iant_> jdolive can you point me to them?
<jdeolive> sure one sec
<jdeolive> they are all in here
<jdeolive> http://lists.refractions.net/geotools/gt2/jars/
<jdeolive> we can create a http://lists.refractions.net/geotools/gt2/2.2.0 at official release
<iant_> hanks
<chorner> or http://lists.refractions.net/geotools/gt2/SNAPSHOT/ ?
<jdeolive> yup
<chorner> the /gt2/jars looks outdated
<iant_> Nope those are the bleeding edge .x jars which my guys can build for them selves if they need - I want the RC1s which are in gt2/jars
<jdeolive> it also loooks like 2.2.x wants to move to JTS 1.7?
<jdeolive> jesse any comments
<Jesse_Eichar77> Not too eager right away. I'm probably ok for 2.2.1 though.
<jdeolive> good point iant_ nonone really knows when those jars were put up
<iant_> sorry miss read that list - looks like I'm still looking for a set of RC1 jars to build agaionst
<jdeolive> yeah there are not there
<jdeolive> probably need to work out the maven 2 build before that happens
<iant_> This has to be a part of making a release otherwise we won't get people to test them
<jdeolive> agreed
<jdeolive> so lets try to make maven 2 somwhat of a priority, i know people are swamped
<jdeolive> so anyone have anything else for this one?
<jdeolive> if not i think meeting is ajourned, unless anyone has any other items
<Jesse_Eichar77> Sounds good to me.
<cholmes> Huh, iant_, what about: http://lists.refractions.net/geotools/dist/2.2.RC1/gt2/jars/ ?
<jdeolive> cool, thanks guys
<iant_> excellent thanks
