I've seen a multicast file copy program on sourceforge but it is in C and doesn't seem to be actively developed any more. It would be great to have this capability as a jar to be imported that provides a simple API for doing multicast.
The idea is that from a single machine you could broadcast files and mutliple client machines would listen to your broadcast and copy those file locally. This saves bandwidth compared to a tool like rsync. The bigger the files and the more nodes being copied to results in more bandwidth savings.
