No wings or beak on the lion?

  3. Feb 07, 2009

Here's a Saturday afternoon banner effort. It's a 'griffon vulture', and it's not blue ..

I dont know/care what license to give it, Creative Commons sounds fine. Hmm it's a bit green and so is the last person's effort!

Cheers & keep up the good work

p.s. the wiki wouldn't let me 'edit' the page, so I commented instead. You might want to alter the permissions, or just direct all comers to 'comment' instead

Although it's not strictly speaking a Griffon, I've taken the definition of a Griffon to be a Lion and an Eagle. So I designed a lion with wings (smile)

An underlying idea, also, was that it could fit in a star, like Groovy's star, of course.

Here's a 48x48 logo, with just the lion head:

    And here's a winged lion:

I've also made one with Griffon title:

The original file is an SVG file, so we can scale it at any size and reuse it at will.

As a variant, the side wings may be better, as it doesn't require as much horizontal space:

  7. Feb 14, 2009

Guillaume, I think I would like yours more if it were a mean lion.  Too smiley!  We need toughness in this world! (wink)

Hope u like them guys, i have sources in svg available (made by inkscape)

    My Griffon Banner:

I think that there is no need for the "G" highlighting etc. People who'll use Griffon know it's based on Groovy.
    Maybe it's tough enough (wink)?

Maybe decision makers avoid Griffon in case of funny logos in a technical presentation. Have a look at the "websphere logo"! There is no design at all.

    Nicolas Martignole,

Your designs seem to be borrowed from http://www.best-of-web.com/search_term_pages/lion_silhouette.html

In my view, this disqualifies your submission.

    Hi James

I understand your concern, if you think
we should not use template then I can submit
    a new version without shapes.

I used AAALogo Creator to design my logo.
Download the trial version from http://www.aaa-logo.com/
and you'll see indeed the referenced animals
    in the library.

If you consider that this is not a valid logo
then yes you can remove my submission and I'll
propose some new version without this design

I personally bought this software with a license
and I am free to use their library (bundled with
the software) to design the logo.

Please contact me by email for further questions

    Nicolas

The actual logo images are transparent. Everything is fully adjustable in the .psd file. Color can be changed with a few clicks on the hue layer. The two (three) wing alternatives are both in the .psd file and can be changed again with just two clicks. The font can be changed if wanted. The splash screen uses transparency, so the shadows will stay.
The logo itself is in 4x higher resolution, and so is the splash. It can easily be made in web 2.0 style if needed (with gloss, thumb in glossy-button style).

Okay, Thanks for the fast response

    (constructive critique)
The "Flying G" banner would probably be better, if the reflection would be straight down, and the G was also reflected. Unlike shadows, reflections are the same from each position. The viewer always sees them straight down.
Also, I voted for this one.

(I could not comment on the vote page)
