Make sure you have gtk2 developer packages installed and enjoy the GTk peers with x86_64 MRP.
This is also possible in Jikes RVM, but as you must run in a 32bit address space there is little support from Linux vendors for providing graphics libraries - hence all graphic peers are disabled by default in Jikes RVM for x86_64 Linux.
