Janino is distributed under the terms of the New BSD License. I chose this license so that Janino will (hopefully= ) be useful in both free and proprietary projects. (In the past, JANINO was= first licensed under the LGPL, and then under the Apache License.)=20
As of today, Janino is written and maintained entirely by Arno Unkrig an= d Matt Fowles. We are independent from SUN Microsystems Inc.=20
Janino was initially developed with JDK 1.2.2 and CVS on Linux. Meanwhil= e, support for JDK 1.2.2 was dropped, and we switched version control to SV= N. Janino is tested against SUN JDK 1.3.1 and 1.6.0.=20
Janino should run on any operating system platform for which a JDK 1.3.1= or higher is available.=20
Janino now is a nearly complete JavaTM compiler. The focus is= now on stabilization and adding the few language features that are still m= issing.=20
There's no special story behind the name. It begins with a "J"= , "janino.net" was still available, and it sounds similar to the = name of a close relative of mine ;-)=20
