<p>REST stands for <a href="http://rest.blueoxen.net/cgi-bin/wiki.pl">REpresentational State Transfer</a>, and is an architectural style for large-scale software design.</p> <p>Within the scope of the ActiveSOAP project we tend to refer to <em>REST services</em> as being services which consume and emit XML documents using either HTTP or JMS transports.</p> <p>i.e. REST services are analogous to Web Services except that they don't necessarily use the SOAP protocol or any of the WS-* specifications; they are just simple, lightweight REST endpoints which respond to either a HTTP POST or JMS send of some XML.</p>
